So you have H. Pylori. What's next?
So you’ve found out you have H. Pylori. Or maybe you suspect you have H. Pylori based on your symptoms and conversations with your health practitioner, but haven’t yet been diagnosed.
Why would you choose to follow a natural anti-H.Pylori strategy rather than the standard conventional medicine treatment?
The traditional method for eradication of H. pylori in Western medicine uses a triple-drug regimen (two antibiotics and a Proton Pump Inhibitor) sometimes combined with bismuth. Unfortunately, over 20% of H. pylori strains have become resistant to some of the antibiotics used. (1) Additionally, the antibiotics can have the unwanted effect of killing off beneficial bacteria in your GI tract.
Beyond that, Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) come with a wide array of side effects that you may not be comfortable with. They have been associated with pneumonia and the serious antibiotic-resistant infection C. difficile because of their negative effects on good bacteria in the digestive tract. Some studies have linked PPIs to micronutrient deficiencies, dementia, and chronic kidney disease. (2)
When developing an H. pylori eradication strategy with your healthcare provider, you may want to consider natural alternatives that don’t carry the risks associated with PPIs or the likelihood of H. pylori resistance.
As part of our gut restoration program, GWL can help you combat H. Pylori with a powerful combination of synergistic botanical and micronutrient therapy.
Pyloristat contains ingredients that have been selected for their ability to combat and inhibit H. pylori without dangerous side-effects.
- Mastic gum. This resin from the Pistacia lentiscus plant has been shown to kill H. pylori in laboratory and animal experiments. It was also able to eradicate H. pylori infection in humans. (3) Pyloristat combines mastic gum with inulin, a prebiotic, to promote beneficial microflora rather than destroy it.
- Berberine is the second natural anti-microbial in Pyloristat. This phytochemical (chemical from plants) has been shown to effectively suppress multi-resistant strains of H. pylori. (4)
- Ginger is the third plant-based anti-H. pylori agent in Pyloristat. The phenols in ginger have been shown to inhibit the growth of H. pylori. (5)
- Bismuth is the final ingredient that helps make Pyloristat an effective formula. Bismuth has direct bactericidal effects on H. pylori because it inhibits bacteria from adhering to the mucosal lining of the stomach. Not only that, but it also has been shown to help heal ulcers in the stomach lining. This natural product, which creates the quadruple effect when added to the triple-drug therapy, offers similar add-on effects in this formula. (6)
Zinc Carnosine is a chelated form of zinc that contains L-carnosine. It has been shown to increase the effectiveness of pharmacological antibiotics in treating H. Pylori. It appears to have the ability to promote healing because of its anti-oxidant properties. (7)
Based on years of clinical experience and nutraceutical research, our natural anti-H. pylori protocol uses several powerful formulas.

Sulforaphane Complex harnesses the power of broccoli against H. pylori. In 2002, researchers discovered that broccoli sprouts had bactericidal properties against H. pylori in both mice and humans. H. pylori finds “sanctuary” in the lining of the stomach, and many strains are antibiotic resistant. Sulforaphane, the one of the primary bioactive compounds in broccoli, eradicates even embedded and resistant forms of the bacteria. (8) Not only that, but it also protects against stomach tumors and decreases inflammation of the stomach, which can be responsible for the discomfort and pain of gastritis. (9) While eating broccoli sprouts every day is a great idea, taking your broccoli in capsule form is usually easier.
Garlic Pro contains concentrated, odorless allicin, one of garlic’s most active bacteria-fighting compounds. In vitro studies have shown that allicin can destroy H. pylori. In human studies, allicin has been found to increase the effectiveness of triple or quadruple drug therapies. Since the success rate of some drug therapies has been reduced to 70% because of the antibiotic-resistance of H. pylori, researchers have been studying natural compounds. Garlic is one of the most promising. A meta-analysis showed that garlic helped eradicate H. pylori and heal peptic ulcers. It also brought a quicker end to abdominal pain. (10)
GI Integrity makes the whole program possible. Let’s be honest. When you’re killing off foreign invaders, it can get messy. Yes, the bacteria produce symptoms, but natural therapies can place a strain on your body, too. That’s why we recommend supporting your stomach along the way with a combination formula that can help digestion, nutrient absorption, and proper elimination processes. Most importantly, the ingredients in this formula can decrease swelling in the stomach lining. This swelling not only causes discomfort and damage, but it also can create an extra protective barrier for H. Pylori bacteria. GI Integrity is a peach-tea flavored powder packed with herbs, minerals, and other nutrients that have been shown to positively affect the GI tract and its functions.
- L-glutamine, our intestinal tissue’s favorite form of fuel, has been shown to protect and repair the mucosal lining of the gut as it enhances immune system functions. (11)
- Glucosamine HCl has been shown to reduce inflammation without the side-effects of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). (12)
- Zinc carnosine, a special form of zinc, appears to have the ability to protect the gut mucosal lining from damage. (7)
- Herbs like marshmallow, cat’s claw, slippery elm, and chamomile have been used traditionally to soothe the GI tract and aid in digestion, and growing research backs their effectiveness.
- Licorice, mucin, and aloe also have soothing properties.

GWL has designed a step-by-step strategy for you to follow. It’s based on 20+ years of clinical experience with my clients and my co-director’s patients. There are dozens of different symptoms caused by H. pylori that call for different approaches. Most people also experience symptoms from the program itself. So, you are going to need a map to develop a plan AND a self-management toolkit to help you build solutions to new problems as you progress. I’ve run into too many self-management programs online or in clinical training that fail to take into account the symptoms their programs cause. But as a wellness coach, your experience during a program matters as much to me as your results after the program is over. So no worries. You won’t be stranded half-way through, feeling worse than you did before.
